Taxpayers and employers will qualify for discounts when they send their tax returns to the Inland Revenue over the Internet during 2001.
Legislation in Finance Act 2000 enables Customs & Excise and the Inland Revenue to offer incentives to customers to use electronic communication with the tax authorities.
The Inland Revenue have today laid regulations before the House of Commons to provide for discounts for the use of the Internet service for Self Assessment tax returns and the Internet service for employers’ end of year returns.
Copies of these regulations will be available shortly from the Stationery Office. They will also be available on the Inland Revenue website, http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk
