The TUC has won two top diversity awards for its work tackling institutional racism.
The annual British Diversity Awards, organised by New Impact magazine in London last week, awarded the Gold Standard to the TUC for raising awareness on institutional racism. TUC’s General Secretary, John Monks also won the Gold Award for commitment to diversity – covering TUC campaigns on equality for lesbians and gays at work and winning pension rights for part-timers.
Welcoming the awards, TUC General Secretary John Monks said, “This is recognition of the positive way trade unions have tried to tackle institutional racism and other forms of discrimination.”
“But neither unions or employers can be complacent. There is still a long way to go. Our message to employers is to work with unions to root out racism and other forms of discrimination, wherever it rears its head at work.”
