Unions benefit business says TUC

pp_default1

The TUC has announced it is to target non-unionised companies across the UK in a bid to convince reluctant employers that union involvement could prove an asset rather than a threat to their businesses.

A leaflet, An employers’ introduction to trade unions is to be sent to 2,000 small and medium-sized firms across the country. It uses DTI figures to show that unionised companies tend to be safer, better trained and more productive.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: “Good employers have nothing to fear from trade unions and everything to gain. Contrary to some of the myths peddled by the anti-union employer brigade, unions can prove to be a very worthwhile asset to any business.

“Unions don’t drag firms down, they want them to do well because a thriving business is good news for the workforce as well.”

An employers’ introduction to trade unions explains what trade unions are all about and says that not only can union reps help make businesses safer, they can also improve lines of communication with the workforce and take a lead on training issues.
