  1. Workplace tension during the recession
    Hi Henry,
    The way in which you chose to respond to this will be dependent on your resources and business need. Nonetheless, it is important that employers recognise that outside influences, such as the economy, or indeed health scares, can be a major stressor, and that this can impact on performance.
    Some companies are finding it useful to set up an “employee assistance programme”. This might include options for supportive measures such as opportunities to work flexibly, access to occupational health services, as well as stress management and health promotion activities.
    Of course, this is heavily dependent on your resources and the way your business works, but it is worth considering the impact of lack of certainty on your staff – possibly the first step is ensuring good communication to minimise uncertainty about your business in the first place.
