I have recently started at a company that gives 20 days plus Bank Holidays annual holiday entitlement. Additionally, and this is in the handbook, when someone has been here 10 years, they get an additional 5 days in their 10th year only, to recognise loyalty.

I believe that this practice could be deemed to be discriminatory under the recently introduced age discrimination laws and that 5 years is the maximum time limit for which you can reward loyalty.

Can anyone confirm or refute my belief and if it is confirmed, any advice on how to change the policy without hacking off all my colleagues.

Thanks!
