Recording of absence – Shift Workers

Does anyone have experience of recording sickness/absence for shiftworkers on a 24/7 shift pattern.

Shift workers within my organisation work a 7 day fornight, 12 hours per shift. The way I currently record the figures and statistics i feel, could be done more effectively.
