The grievance was not upheld, and HR were going through how he could appeal. However, then the boss's boss arrived and asked him to meet him in a separate office (ie – HR were not there). He told him he was dismissed with immediate effect and the reasons would be laid out in a letter. (which we don't yet have).
We are in utter shock! Firstly, he was not given a chance to appeal the grievance as he's no longer an employee. He has NOT done anything that could possibly constitute gross misconduct (although this wasn't mentioned). They basically said he was 'not up to the job' (despite all his previous reports being excellent). He has never had a warning – verbal or otherwise. The grievance was about bullying and also blowing the whistle as he suspects something suspicious is going on.
All he did was raise a grievance….
Can the company do this??
They have surely not followed procedures? They have also blackened his name making finding another job impossible,….
We are devastated… We're seeing a lawyer this week, but would really value people's opinion on this,
By the way, he's been with the co 3 months short of 2 years….
