We ALL want success don’t we?
When I read an inspiring article in CEO.com about the 5 Habits of Exceptionally Rich Founders, I was compelled to share some habits we recommend to help people set their gaols and more importantly – reach them! Some of the habits in the CEO.com article include things you would expect like rich founders are risk-takers, or ‘they do what they love’ or they ‘leave a legacy’. I couldn’t agree more but let me give you 5 more useful mind-set habits to adopt:-
1. Identify your core values
What’s most important to you?
Finding your core values may seem odd when it comes to success, but creating goals that are in line with your values is central to your personal motivation.
Reflect on what you value most – pick a handful of things – and write them down.
Every day, remind yourself of your values, and reflect on whether you’re living those values through your work.
2. Set a deadline
Set a date for success – identify when you want to achieve your goal.
Keep it realistic, while not giving yourself too much time – and create a sense of urgency.
By setting a time limit you are making the process more real. You’ll also now have something to visualise in the next point (Tip 3).
3. Build the right mind-set
Believe fully in your ability to achieve your goal.
Visualise yourself having completed your goal in the exact time-frame you have chosen, although finishing early is also good!
You don’t need to consider the failures that will happen along the way. Success is inevitable!
Other may think you’ll fail but don’t be one of them!
“Whether you think that you can or that you can’t, you’re usually right.” Henry Ford
4. Set consequences
Set up negative consequences for missing your deadline.
Necessity really IS the mother of invention!
If you can manage to keep yourself motivated, that’s great. If not, this will help kick you into gear and keep your eye fixed on the prize.
5. Persevere
Failure is inevitable when you take a risk – which is what you’ll be doing if you want to succeed!
By its very definition, the desire to succeed at something means you are risking failure.
Many people give up far too early – don’t fall into this trap!
Remember your mind-set and visualise success. KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN!
A failure is merely you learning what does and doesn’t work. Use failure. See it as a GOOD thing, smile and then march on!
