We have an apprentice intake each year, most of whom are 16 year old school leavers.

In the good old days when there was a problem we would involve their parents and most problems with college work etc could be sorted that way. These days we cannot contact third parties without the apprentice’s permission and they never want their parents involved. BUT, if it leads to dismissal we end up with irate parents banging on the door wanting to know why they were not informed.

Does anyone know where we stand on this?

Does anyone have a specific apprenticeship or training contract that includes a right to contact a young person’s parents or guardian bearing in mind that they are still in full-time education for the first year and part-time for a further three years?

Does anyone know if I wrote this into a contract would we be okay?
