A friend has approached me with the following problem and am unsure what to advise.

Shift workers have a contract for 30 days per year. Because their shifts are of differing lengths, ie could be 8 hours, could be 13 hours, a business is looking to change the entitlement to be recorded in hours.

Staff have been told that it has changed with effect from their date of start, effectively changing this years entitlement. This means that depending on when they book their days off staff can be losing upto 9 days per year. A weekend shift now takes the equivalent of 3 days (in hours) instead of 2 days. Staff see this as unfair.

Any advice is welcome.
