We are a retail company and the majority of our employee’s are required to work Saturdays. This year Christmas and Boxing Day fall on a weekend and therefore the Bank Holidays move to Monday and Tuesday. We will not be opening on 25th or 26th but as colleagues are getting an extra days holiday(25th)we would like them to work on the Tuesday Bank holiday. Could anyone advise if; 1. We can do this, as we are effectively stopping them from working by closing on 25th? 2. We would need to (a) consult with them and (b) pay them the Bank Holiday overtime rate?
Any feedback on what other companies are going to do would be much appreciated.
