Our mentoring and coaching research has led us to compile a comprehensive set of guidelines for the manager who seeks to be competent at developing his or her people. We see these guidelines, as a potential standard supporting managers’ continuing professional development.

The standard, which we have called the Developer of People Standard, comprises a set of basic competences in each of three parts that help the manager;

1. Develop him or herself as a developer of others

2. Develop individual employees or learners

3. Develop the organisation

The sets of competences in each of the three sections are supported by performance criteria that can be used to guide the manager who wants to develop his or her skills and to improve their abilities in those areas.

The next step in introducing the Developer of People Standard is to test its validity through consultation with selected groups who are experts in their field. Their feedback and comments will help us to verify our findings and consolidate the standard.

This is where you come in!

We aim to get feedback from as many different groups as possible, if you would be interested in reading through section one and commenting on it please email me and I’ll send a copy of the standard to you. Anyone interested in receiving the standard just for their information is also welcome to email me info@clutterbuckassociates.co.uk
