I have recently started as the sole HR person in an Architect’s practice that previously had no HR presence.

One of the main problems the practice is facing is the difficulty of recruiting Architects and Technicians of the right calibre (particularly at a more senior level) and in a very tight market. At the moment we tend to use recommendations from current staff members and recruitment agencies, however they are loathe to continue using agencies because of the high cost associated with this.

I would be interested to hear from other people who have faced similar problems in this industry or another and how they have coped with this and turned it around for the business.
