We have an employee who has been with the organisation for over 2 years. For the majority of this time his Senior Manager has known that he suffers from HIV. This is not a problem to us and he has been given regular time off to attend hospital appointments.
The organisation I work for has never dealt with performance issues for any of it’s staff until they employed me fairly recently. This guy does not perform well, he is idle and does not produce work to the standard you would expect. In addition to this he has huge amounts of sickness, which he always claims is a as result of his illness – which it may well be.
I have recently sat him down and explained that we have several issues regarding his work; I detailed the quantity and quality of his work, as well as high lighting his sickness record over the last 12 months. Since that meeeting (3 weeks ago) he has had 5 days sickness on 3 separate occasions. I have also had cause to speak to him about loitering in Reception and not completing a task he was set.
I am now thinking about sending him to see an Occupational Health specialist to see if his sickness levels are usual for someone with his condition and to see if there are any adjustments we can make for him.
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what I can do to resolve this situation.
