I run a small/medium size business. We have in recent months had an increase in absence. The usual issues, coughs, colds, stomach upsets. I have dealt with each absence issue with each employee on an individual basis.

The roles they are in are not exciting and the pay reflects that the role is basic and requires little training. However, we are not a long hours culture, we offer flexible working and the hour are sociable.

We do not pay sick pay other than SSP.

I am trying to think of ways to improve attendance positively, I must recognise that the role and pay are what they are. Also as a small/medium employer I do not have the budget for things such as gym membership.

Recently we allowed a company to come in and provide a self service chocolate bar box, it was at the request of the staff. Whilst I do not mind they are quite expensive. I was looking at providing subsidised healthy snacks. Possibly vouchers for the local health food shop.

Has anyone any ideas that may be of use or areas I could consider?

Thanks
