We are beginning to seriously consider in New Zealand a trial period for new employees, where the employer is protected from any action of unfair dismissal for a period. I would appreciate any comments on the major issues that have had to be dealt with in the UK over this employment provision; and in particular if it has been found to be “fair” to employees, and also to what extent it has been found to be beneficial to employers.
