I have an emnployee who has edited their pay slips and presented them to the local Council for housing benefit. Essentially, the hours and pay were reduced to qualify for the benefit. I am worried about this action because the employee has access to our business safe and daily till emptying and cash counting. I have lost trust but am not sure where to go. I do not feel comfortable with them having access to money. If they are willing to defraud the authorities for benefit, what will they do to pocket cash? This issue is complicated because the employee is currently on maternity leave and not due back at work for several months. I dont want to wait that long to deal with the issue, and I dont feel comfotable with them coming back to work in the same role. Any suggestions on what I do?
