I’m new to employing staff and payroll. We have an employee who’s salary is £20K a year. I realise this seems a very basic question, but each month, should I pay one twelfth of the yearly salary (ie. £1666.67) or should I adjust it each month based on the number of days in the month (but still totally £20K at the end of the year). What is normal practice?

If as I guess you divide it equally, how does that work if the employee was to leave mid month – How would I then calculate monies owed?
