Our Caretakers work a 6 week rota – 3 nights in one week and 4 in the next – an average of 3.5 nights a week. If they worked 5 nights a week they would get 22 days holiday a year, but we pro rata holiday to an average of 3.5 nights which comes to 15.5 days a year. They work shifts of 6.00 pm to 6.00 am, so my question is how can they take their half a day out of their 15.5 holiday days, as this would mean a colleague having to come in at midnight to cover half a shift to allow them to take their 0.5 day leave? Any ideas?
