Currently we have somewhat lax, i.e. ‘few questions asked’ approach to absence due to sickness of all types. While I’m sure that the majority of absences are genuine, there remains the suspicion that this is not always the case.

So, as part of a review of our monitoring and control of absence we would like to ask employees to provide us with evidence of absences due hospital appointments, visits to the dentist, etc. Would this be permissible?
