We have 2 pension schemes, 1 that allows employees to access their pension at 55 (now closed), and a new one which lets employees to access their pensions at 60. This is known in the documentation for each scheme as the Pensions Age. It doesn’t refer to retirement age, does this mean that the default retirement age applies?

Also if any employees want to stay with us past 55 or past 60 would they have to request an extension of service or can they just carry on until the default age of 65, without the need to gain permission?

Our pensions department say we need to have local agreement for the continuous service past 60 or 55, but since these aren’t defined as retirement ages, where does this stand in terms of age legislation?
