An employee has asked for voluntary redundancy due to personal circumstances and we have agreed.

Our policy is to make a PILON but the issue of voluntary redundancy has never come up. In this instance, the employee would be due 12 weeks notice from the company and will be working 4 of them. Are we obliged to pay the additional 8? (The reason he is working some of the notice is due to a hospital operation date).
