One member of a team of eight employees with the same position/terms/conditions of employment stands out as the most diligent, hardwording and capable to lead the team. We believe promoting this person would be a natural career progression but are concerned that we treating the other employees unfairly in not offering all employees the possibility of this promotion. i.e. should we draw up a person specification for this role and advertise it within the company. This is not an existing role but one we are creating for the particular skills and commitment this person has shown. I’m anxious that we will be questioned by other employees as to why they have not been chosen for this pomotion/position which will be rewarded by a small increase in salary.
