A friend of mine works for a college of higher education.
The college has told her department that they need to make at least one person redundant, for financial reasons. The college then came back the following day and said that if everyone worked one hour less a week then there would be no need for redundancy. Their salaries would change to reflect this.
This change is being implemented with no consultation and staff are being told ‘either take the change, or take redundancy’.
My friend is aware that haggling over 1 hour a week sounds silly, but add that up over the year, and it makes quite a difference to her salary.
I would be really interested to hear your thoughts about this, and what, if anything, you suggest she does.
