Our company employes a number of skilled and semi-skilled CNC Machine Operators who are employed on the basis of skills required to support customer demands. The skills required to fulfil changing customer demand is changing and the current skill base in certain areas of the business cannot support forward business demands (we have conducted a skills appraisal). This change affects 10% of the workforce. Re-deployment within the company is not a viable option. We are exploring various options and wish to treat people fairly. However, how do I make the selection for redundancy process fair if it only affects certain employees?
