I LEFT A COMPANY 3 MONTHS AGO. JUST AFTER A MONTH FROM LEAVING I GOT SENT A LETER ASKING ME TO REPAY THE COURSE FEE’S FOR MY CPP. I WAS TOLD THIS COULD HAPPEN IF I LEFT AFTER COMPLETION OF THE COURSE. AS I WAS GIVEN THE IMPRESSION PART OF MY JOB (IE THE PERSONNEL SIDE) WOULD SOON NO LONGER EXIST I DECIDED TO LEAVE. UPON LEAVING I HADN’T FINISHED MY CPP COURSE!

NOW I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING THEY WANT THE COURSE FEE’S BACK AND THAT THEY WILL COVER THE COST OF MY CIPD MEMBERSHIP AS THEY HAVE USED IT AS A COMPANY, BUT I HAVE TO PAY THE REST OF MY COURSE FEE’S BACK AS THEY HAVE GAINED NO BENEFIT FROM ME! I FIND THIS STRANGE AS I SET UP A PERSONNEL SYSTEM AND APPRAISAL SYSTEM WHILST I WAS THERE AS A PERSONNEL DEPT DIDN’T EXIST BEFORE ME SO I THINK THEY HAVE BENEFITTED FROM ME AND I’VE NEVER HAD ANY COMPLAINTS!

MORE TO THE POINT. CAN THEY FORCE ME TO PAY THESE FEE’S BACK??? (THEY WANT NEARLY £300 BACK IN 3-4 INSTALLMENTS MAX!) HOW EXACTLY DO I STAND LEGALLY? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
THANKS
