I have recently been tasked with reviewing a performance management system and I am looking for examples of how companies relate performance to pay in a non sales environment.

I am interested in

How and when performance reviews take place.

How performance is rated, 1-5 or poor – outstanding etc.

The criteria that is rated, objectives, competencies etc.

If the organisation uses a forsed distribution curve for ratings (and if so how they “sell” this to employees)

How the rating relates to pay and bonus.

If managers have any discretion in awarding pay and bonus.

I would really appreciate any help on how other organisations approach performance management.
