One of our employees reported sick 3 days before a planned holiday leave and only returned to work on the previously planned return date.
We have initially allowed this to be covered as paid sick leave and for their holiday entitlement not to be affected.
Other employees have taken notice of this and it is thought that there may be a future abuse of this policy.
Is our policy in this instance, normal or indeed legally correct? To take this a stage further, what is acceptable practice if an employee was to take advantage of this by reporting ill when already on holiday?
