I understand that the employee has to have an average of the lower earning threshold (107 per week 2012-13) over 8 weeks. We have a new employee that has gone off sick after a week into the job. He has now resigned after a month.

I assume he is not entitled to SSP as he is has not received a an average of 107 per week over the past 8 weeks. Is my understanding correct or should the average be calculated over the 4 week period that he was employed?

The average over the period that he was employed does work out over 107 per week but the average over 8 weeks doesn’t amount to the 107 per week.

Not sure if we should be paying him ssp or not?
