An employee has been with the Company for 4 months. 6 weeks into his employment his girlfriend became very ill and required treatment in the USA. The employee went on unpaid leave until further notice. We now need to review the situation as it is still unclear as to how long this period of unpaid leave is going to continue or whether he is likely to return. What are the options available to us? Ask him to resign? Terminate his employment? or continue on an unpaid leave basis? We would appreciate any comments you may have
