Just recently I have heard of several people applying for positions with some companies (one of major brand leader) getting to interview then being told the job is on hold, sometimes for months and in one case a year!

In another case the vacancy was advertised by one particular recruitment consultant, the applicant was then told that the HR Manager was off sick (this went on for some weeks), at the same time this company then advertises a similar position with a rival consultant (the company involved says that these are different positions).

Do they honestly expect applicants to sit around waiting all this time, it hardly shows the company in good light, hardly professional.
