The BBC revealed this month that nearly one in three adults in the UK now uses a smartphone, according to an Ofcom report.

Add to this the growing popularity of flexible working and the increasing demise of the traditional office environment as we know it, and it’s no wonder that smartphones have an important role to play in professional and personal lives.
The rocketing popularity of this mobile technology means more and more people want to – and can – access information and the internet on the go. Thank goodness then that some technology providers have already developed mobile apps. We for example, have created a mobile version of our award-winning software so that employees have HR and payroll information at their fingertips, wherever they may be.
We’ve always been dedicated to creating systems and functionality that offer clients an unparalleled level of opportunity.
We’d been talking about the concept of a mobile app for HR and payroll for many years. Acknowledging the growing importance of mobile technology and the boundaries it can overcome, we began turning this idea into a reality in Autumn 2010. Following a successful pilot in early 2011, we officially launched the app at the CIPD’s HR Software Show in June, and the response was phenomenal.
Many prospective clients had been looking for something like this in the marketplace, and were delighted that we’ve had the technological foresight to develop the innovation. Other companies hadn’t even considered the value of a mobile app for HR, or even ever thought that it could exist, but our understanding of client needs meant that we spotted the opportunity for them.
The Ofcom survey also revealed that 37% of adults consider themselves addicted to using their smartphone. Whilst I’m not suggesting that employees are going to spend every hour of the day completing HR tasks with our mobile app, it is important that we as software developers, and you as employers, engage with staff via the most relevant routes available.
