Why is it that some people remain innovative, essential and vibrant long into their sixties, seventies, and even their eighties and beyond, while others seem to be old long before their time?

I don’t think it’s just about the physical side of life; about how lucky or otherwise you are when it comes to having the right genes to keep you fit and healthy. I’m sure it’s also about how engaged in life you are, how motivated you are to keep learning, growing and thriving, and doing so mentally, as well as physically.

Our boss, Ken Blanchard, of ‘One Minute Manager’ fame, is now 75. Yet he’s still one of the most dynamic and energetic people I know, as well as being one of the happiest. He’s still writing books; still; guiding our company; still travelling the world to spread his message to thousands of business leaders. How does he do it?

Some of his secrets are unveiled in his new book, ‘Refire! Don’t Retire: How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life.’ He highlights the need to continue the process of what he calls ‘self-renewal’ in four areas of life: the Intellectual, the Physical, the Spiritual and the Emotional.  Consciously growing in all four of these areas makes for a fulfilling life, he says. Staying focused and engaged mentally – the Intellectual aspect – must be balanced the other three areas: learning how to create a healthy body and sense of well-being; learning how to be spiritual in the sense of moving beyond focusing on just yourself, and learning to share emotional connections with others. Then, he believes, you can successfully turn dreams and plans into action, whatever your stage of life and whatever your age.

Ken Blanchard will be exploring this is a webinar on Thursday 29 January at 17:00. Maybe you can register here http://www.kenblanchard.com/Events/Webinars and join the conversation if you need a lift, or want to prove to yourself and others that the best is yet to come?
