For my first blog I thought I’d share my seven step process for getting out of the career creeks we find ourselves. Sometimes it may just mean taking up the paddle and paddling to get out of there – other times we may need to Stop and traverse through all seven steps:

STOP – stop going around in circles, stop the constant doing and take time to release the fear and just breathe.

Life Jacket – to get back out into the rapids a life jacket will help. In life this means moving to a more positive and confident state of mind and body.

Mission – what are you good at, enjoy and have passion for? So why would you choose to do anything else?

Map – Plotting a map with all the possible routes to meet the mission helps expands thinking to include ALL the opportunities that exist. There are always more than we think.

Guides & Travellers – It’s important to develop your network and differentiate between those who can help you, those who will travel with you and those who simply drain your energy.

Compass – You have your own inner compass, inner wisdom some would say intuition. Once you’ve got all the possible routes out of the creek it’s your inner compass, your intuition that will determine which direction you take.

Paddle – And finally there is only one way out of the creek and that’s to take up your paddle and use it. That is take personal responsibility to take the necessary action to take the first and subsequent steps.
