ave you noticed that it is getting harder to focus? I was talking to my neighbour yesterday and she admitted to being overwhelmed and not getting enough started and finished. There are so many distractions and so much information around —- it’s getting more difficult to get things done. Here are some tips on using your below-conscious Motivation Triggers to help you out:

  1. Ramp up your motivation! Give yourself a reward for completing a step in your process. Make a picture of it in your mind! It could be as simple as seeing your lunch! This gives you something to move toward! (The below-conscious Motivation Trigger is Toward —– some people prefer this trigger)
  2. Give yourself a kick in the butt! Make sure that there is a deadline with negative consequence for not completing on time. See it in your mind’s eye. (This is the famous Away From Motivation Trigger — avoiding bad stuff — great for getting started.)
  3. See the forest before the trees! Getting lost in detail is demotivating and often makes you lose focus. (Go to what I call the General Motivation Trigger before you go into the Specific Trigger.) Zoom out and check the big picture to refocus your attention. Her are some questions to help you do this:

Why are you doing this?

What do you want to accomplish?

Why is that important? Why now?

How will you know that you have completed it? or made progress?
