Work/Life balance: awards for best employers, search begins for “Britain’s best boss”

pp_default1

Parents at Work and Lloyds TSB are looking for nominations for the award of “Britain’s Best Boss”. The winners of the PoW/Lloyds TSB Employer of the Year awards were announced last week. They aim to recognise “employers who help their employees and their businesses to reap the benefits of good work-life balance”. The search for Britain’s best boss is a more recent development, only in its second year, and is the individual equivalent. It is intended to identify and reward individual employers and line managers who take practical steps to improve work / life balance for their staff, while also practising it themselves. They should encourage flexible hours and home-working, be understanding about family emergencies and ensure that no one under their management works unreasonable hours.

The employee who nominates the winning boss will receive a bottle of champagne and the Best Boss will receive £1000 in travel vouchers, courtesy of Lloyds TSB. All the finalists, and those who nominate them, will be invited to a celebratory lunch at the House of Lords in May 2002.

You can get a nomination form by calling the Best Boss Hotline on 020 7588 1788 or you can fill in a form on the Parents at Work site.
