HR tip: Help for redundant employees

Question:

"We have had to make a few people redundant because we are short of orders and therefore cash. Also, we are unable to extend our overdraft. In these limited circumstances is there anything you could suggest we do to help these people?"

HR tip:

I am sorry about your circumstances but admire your concern. Help your employees to write a few words about themselves that, with their permission, you then circulate to Jobcentres, recruitment agencies, Chambers of Commerce, trade associations and local employers, explaining the circumstances. Make available at a central point any newspapers or magazines that might contain job adverts. And if you can, help your people to write CVs, have them typed up neatly, and give them reasonable use of your telephones and photocopier. This should not cost you much in money or time but would be of great help to your unfortunate employees.
